Anteaters Rally but Lose in Overtime in Men’s Soccer

UC Irvine rallied from a two-goal deficit to force overtime, but Alex Rodriguez of Cal State Dominguez Hills scored the winning goal in sudden death for a 3-2 nonconference men’s soccer victory Friday at Irvine.
Rodriguez scored in the 93rd minute for the Toros (11-6-1).
Michael Mucino scored a first-half goal and Walter Camargo, from Mater Dei, scored the tying goal in the 79th minute, with Mike Margeson assisting on both goals for the Anteaters (5-7-4).
Dominguez Hills took the lead when Ovidio Martinez scored in the sixth minute and the Toros added an own goal in the eighth minute.
In the Met Life Classic men’s soccer tournament at UCLA:
Duke 4, Cal State Fullerton 1--Troy Garner scored two goals on assists from Evan Whitfield for Duke. Alessio Smith scored a unassisted goal in the second half for Fullerton, which trailed, 3-0, at halftime.
In Big West Conference women’s swimming:
UC Irvine 134, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 107--Diver Arika Earley won the one- and three-meter events for the Anteaters (1-0).
In Big West Conference men’s swimming:
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 133, UC Irvine 100--Chris Robertson won the 200 freestyle and the 200 butterfly for UC Irvine (0-1). James Frazee won the one- and three-meter diving events for the Anteaters.
In nonconference women’s volleyball:
La Verne 3, Chapman 2--La Verne (14-10), ranked third in the West Region, won, 15-8, 6-15, 8-15, 15-8, 15-10. Monica Girard had 19 kills for second-ranked Chapman (15-8).
