Saddleback Upsets Top-Seeded OCC in Women’s Water Polo

Fifth-seeded Saddleback knocked off top-seeded Orange Coast, 7-5, in the semifinals of the Orange Empire Conference women’s water polo tournament on Friday at Cypress College.
Brianna Foulds scored five goals to lead Saddleback (10-10-1), which will play the winner of the Grossmont/Riverside game today at 2 p.m. Aimee Piper made seven saves for the Gauchos.
Orange Coast is 20-7-1.
Saddleback beat fourth-seeded Palomar, 6-5, in a first-round game to advance to the semifinals. Foulds scored three goals and Piper made nine saves.
In a consolation game:
Palomar 16, Santa Ana 4--Kristen Thompson scored four goals for Santa Ana. Thompson also scored all five goals for the Dons in a 10-5 loss to Orange Coast in the first round.
In the South Coast Conference tournament:
Golden West 20, Fullerton 7--Lisa Saenz had seven goals for Golden West (29-1), the top-ranked team in the state.
In the South Coast Conference men’s water polo tournament:
Golden West 13, Mt. San Antonio 5--Peter Janov scored four goals and Mike Peetz added three for Golden West (29-0).
In Orange Empire Conference men’s soccer:
Cypress 1, Riverside 1--Ryan Chase scored the only goal for host Cypress (5-8-2, 3-4-2).
Irvine Valley 3, Golden West 0--Otto Rodriguez had a goal and two assists for host Irvine Valley (16-5-5, 5-2-2).
Santa Ana 1, Orange Coast 1--Orange Coast (2-10-5, 2-5-2) took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ariel Gavilan in the 61st minute. Nick Purdom scored five minutes later for Santa Ana (6-11, 6-2-1).
In Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer:
Cypress 6, Riverside 0--Lori Harris scored three goals for Cypress (17-1-2, 9-0-1), the top-ranked team in the state.
Orange Coast 6, Santa Ana 0--OCC improved to 15-2-3, 9-0-1.
In Orange Empire Conference women’s volleyball:
Cypress 3, Fullerton 0--Kelly Fleischman had 12 kills for host Cypress (8-5, 4-4), which won, 15-3, 15-6, 15-3. Misty Rice had 16 kills for the Hornets (2-13, 0-8).
Golden West 3, Riverside 0--Kristin Smith had nine kills for top-ranked Golden West (16-0, 8-0) in its 15-1, 15-8, 15-4 victory.
Saddleback 3, Orange Coast 1--Gina Stivers had 20 kills for Saddleback (12-3, 7-1), which won, 10-15, 18-16, 15-0, 15-2.
