Boy Faces Murder Charge in Shooting of Woman

A 15-year-old boy was arraigned Monday on murder and other charges in juvenile court in Inglewood for his alleged involvement in the Nov. 5 killing of an Athens Park woman who was shot to death as she watched television, authorities said.

The boy, who was arrested with two suspected gang members shortly after the shooting, was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder in connection with the death of 42-year-old Juanita Palacio. Charges have not been filed against the two alleged gang members, according to the district attorney’s office. A fitness hearing is scheduled Dec. 2 to determine if the boy will be tried as an adult.

Palacio’s daughter and a friend were talking outside her apartment in the 1200 block of West 120th Street when they were chased inside by a gunman who fired several shots into the front room. A bullet struck Palacio in the heart.

At a carwash held Saturday to raise money for Palacio’s funeral, her family and friends expressed grief and outrage over her death.

“They shot my moms,” said the victim’s son, Errol Myers, 18. “I would . . . kill them if it weren’t for my daughter. That’s just how I feel now.”
