Royal Serves Notice With 3-Set Victory

Royal High served, blocked and, as a result, coasted to victory.
The Highlanders defeated Righetti, 15-2, 15-6, 15-5, in the first round of the Southern Section Division I-A girls’ volleyball playoffs Tuesday night at Royal.
Royal (15-2) had 12 team blocks, five by Sherisa Livingtson, and served sharply in the first two games.
Jenny Myszcowski had seven service points in the first game and Colleen Kruetner had eight service points in the second for Royal, seeded second in Division I-A.
Livingston had 11 kills for the Highlanders.
In other Division I-A first-round playoff matches:
Highland d. Valencia, 15-7, 15-5, 13-15, 15-4--Josie Wilson had 14 kills and six blocks, and Jennifer Smith added nine kills for the Bulldogs (17-0) at Highland.
Highland, the Golden League champion, travels to Buena for a second-round match Thursday.
Buena d. Canyon, 15-8, 15-12, 5-15, 8-15, 15-9--The Bulldogs (9-8), who finished fourth in the Channel League, upset the Foothill League champion Cowboys at Canyon.
Nici Matlock and Tamara Trouw each had 17 kills, and Rene Adams added 14 kills for Buena. Setter Harmony Miranda had 53 assists for the Bulldogs.
Hart d. Thousand Oaks, 15-13, 8-15, 15-12, 0-15, 15-10--Pamela Hunnicutt had 14 kills for the Indians (13-4) at Thousand Oaks. Hart plays host to second-seeded Royal on Thursday.
DIVISION I-AA
Lakewood d. Glendale, 15-4, 15-5, 15-10--The Dynamiters struggled against the Moore League champions at Lakewood.
DIVISION II-A
Redondo Union d. Newbury Park, 15-12, 12-15, 15-10, 7-15, 15-6--Nadine Leusey had 10 kills and Karin Whitney added 32 assists for the Panthers, who finished fourth in the Marmonte League and were eliminated at Redondo Union.
DIVISION V-AA
Campbell Hall d. Montclair Prep, 15-5, 15-4, 15-12--Cicely Carew had six aces in the third game for the Vikings (11-5) at Campbell Hall.
Viewpoint d. Thacher, 15-12, 15-5, 15-10--Lauren Campbell had 14 kills and four aces, and Mindy Baker had 19 assists for the Patriots (17-4) at Viewpoint.
Bishop Diego d. Holy Martyrs, 15-1, 15-4, 15-3--Anne Fariya had seven kills for the third-seeded Cardinals (12-5) at Bishop Diego.
