Trio-Tech International Shows Gain in Net Income

Trio-Tech International posted a net income of $211,000 in its first quarter, up 25% from $169,000 a year earlier.
The San Fernando maker of test equipment for semiconductors reported revenues for the three months ended Sept. 26 of $5.1 million, down 9% from $5.6 million in 1996.
The sales decline was due to a decrease in testing volume for a major Malaysian customer in the fourth quarter, while higher earnings resulted from improved performances for other operations, particularly in Singapore, Trio-Tech said.
The company recently completed a $3.8-million private placement of common stock and warrants to expand its U.S. manufacturing operations. Trio-Tech makes machines that spin computer chips to test their endurance. Its customers include Motorola Inc. and Intel Corp.
