Journalists’ Panel Set at CSUN Event

Aspiring reporters at Cal State Northridge’s journalism department will have an opportunity to meet some working professionals at a panel discussion Monday.

The event, “Networking With the Pros: A Night of Internships, Clips and Really Hot Tips,” will feature five speakers from print, radio and television who will give students advice on assembling portfolios, interviewing, how to write resumes and obtaining job internships, said Celine Ohanians, president of the CSUN chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to get together and network with professionals who are already in the business,” Ohanians said. “Meeting the panelists can be a great way of getting started in internships.”

The speakers scheduled to appear at the event are Bob Rawitch, a public relations executive and a former editor of the Los Angeles Times Valley Edition; Chris Woodard, internship coordinator and assistant city editor of the Daily News; Paul Pringle, bureau chief for Copley News Service; Todd Lytes, news reporter for STAR 98.7 FM; and Anu Kishor, a host for the Channel 18 news program “Eye on Asia.”

“This is a very well-known panel of journalists who are very happy to be a part of the event,” Ohanians said. “It will be a great educational experience for the students, and I hope that they actually take advantage of this opportunity to meet the panel members.”

The event will be held at Jerome Richfield Hall at 18111 Nordhoff St., Room 247, on the west side of the Northridge campus from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
