10,000 Expected at Rescue Mission Today

An estimated 10,000 homeless men, women and children are expected to line up at the Union Rescue Mission today to celebrate the annual “Thanksgiving Day with the Skid Row Community.”
The kitchen at the Union Rescue Mission, the nation’s largest and Los Angeles’ oldest mission, will be dishing out 350 turkeys, 600 pounds of stuffing, 720 pounds of mashed potatoes, 620 pounds of vegetables, 700 pounds of yams and 240 gallons of gravy at the 11 a.m. meal.
In addition to the food, children will receive toys and 3,000 donated pairs of socks will he handed out at the mission, 545 S. San Pedro St.
