Council OKs Renovation Plan for Seaside Lagoon

The renovation of Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach could start early next year.
The City Council this week approved preliminary landscaping plans for the popular saltwater park in King Harbor Marina.
Sue Armstrong, director of recreation and community services, said Thursday that bids to repair and upgrade the park could go out in December and construction could begin in January. The park could be reopened next summer.
The lagoon was almost forced to close two years ago when city officials discovered that the pumping system had been damaged during the 1994 Northridge earthquake and posed safety concerns.
The city spent $100,000 for temporary repairs to keep the park open. The city has recently received $1.7 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $300,000 in county Proposition A funds to pay for the repairs.
