Police Issue Warning About Attempted Assaults

Police advised residents Friday about a series of attempted sexual assaults that they believe were committed by one man.
Los Angeles Police Det. Steven Barragan said he believes an attempted rape and three other crimes involving women were committed by the man between Aug. 6 and Oct. 16.
Barragan said that although three of the incidents are recorded as burglaries, investigators believe that the prowler intended to sexually assault the women, all of whom succeeded in scaring him off.
Except for the attempted rape, which occurred at 9:30 p.m., the crimes occurred during the day in the area west of Lincoln Boulevard and north of Venice Boulevard, he said. In all cases, the man entered through an unlocked door or window.
Barragan described the prowler as a black man 18 to 20 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall, weighing 150 to 170 pounds, and sometimes wearing a royal blue sweatsuit.
