Champion’s Late Score Gives Foothill a Victory

TUSTIN — Skyler Champion’s touchdown run with 4 minutes 16 seconds left gave Foothill a 14-13 victory over El Modena in a Century League game Friday at Tustin High School.
Trailing, 13-6 with 6:34 left, the Knights (3-4, 2-0) went 75 yards in seven plays for the winning score, an 11-yard run by Champion. Dustin Daniels’ extra point gave the Knights the lead.
The Knights took a 7-0 lead when Carlos Ruelas scored on a two-yard run with 7:19 left in the first quarter.
El Modena tied the score on a two-yard run by Charlie Williams with 1:33 left in the half. Williams finished with 135 yards rushing in 40 carries and scored two touchdowns.
El Modena held Foothill to no first downs in the third quarter. The Vanguards took the lead on Williams’ one-yard touchdown run with 6:34 left. But Thoby Archer’s extra point was wide left, which proved costly.
