Venus and Mars are only 2.5 degrees apart (five times the diameter of the moon).Look for them low in the southwest at the end of evening twilight around 5:40 p.m. Venus is brilliant. Mars, less than one-hundredth as bright, is a short distance to the upper right of Venus. On Monday evening the thin crescent moon will join these two planets.
