This fall, Bathgate Elementary School will become the first elementary school in Orange County to pilot a new Learn Not to Burn fire safety program.
Twelve kindergarten through third-grade classes will pilot the program, which is designed to teach the students fire prevention and safety skills, such as how to crawl under smoke and how to call for help.
Bathgate was randomly selected by the Orange County Fire Authority, which had applied to the National Fire Protection Assn., its developers. Sixty other sites across America also are participating.
