Firefighters to Play Role in National Rite

Four members of the Fire Department’s color guard will travel to the National Fire Academy in Maryland next month to participate in a ceremony honoring fallen firefighters.
The occasion marks the first time a color guard from west of the Mississippi has been invited to participate. “We’re pretty proud of that,” said Keith Fujimoto, a color guard member.
The honor was unexpected, he said, since the group has been in existence for only four years.
The families of 95 firefighters who lost their lives on the job will be honored this year. Fujimoto said Costa Mesa’s color guard may escort the families of firefighters from Stockton who were killed during a blaze there earlier this year.
