Changes Sought in Appointment Process

Supervisors Todd Spitzer and Thomas W. Wilson have asked county officials to improve the procedure for appointing people to Orange County’s dozens of boards and commissions.
The supervisors said the county lacks clear guidelines regarding the function of some committees and who is eligible to serve on them.
Spitzer said he would also like the county to determine if all the boards are needed or whether some can be consolidated.
Supervisor Jim Silva asked that the county also figure out how much it costs to support the various boards, which deal with such issues as mental health and landfill management.
