Santa Maria 27, Santa Paula 7--Santa Paula was limited to 33 yards rushing and Willy Zavala had four of his passes intercepted.
Zavala connected with Ivan Mercado on a 25-yard scoring pass late in the third quarter to cut the Saints’ lead to 21-7.
Santa Maria (1-1), which had lost 17 consecutive games, thwarted any hope of a Cardinal comeback when Anthony Snowden made his third interception of the game with 5:56 left.
