Bill to Restart Rail Project Gains

State legislation designed to put the stalled Pasadena Blue Line rail project back on track was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee on Tuesday.
The so-called rescue bill by Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Burbank) would create the Pasadena Metro Blue Line Construction Authority to take over construction of the 13.6-mile light-rail line between downtown Los Angeles and Pasadena from the financially strapped Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
The measure now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The MTA in January suspended work for at least six months on the $804-million line because of a $259-million shortfall. Proponents of the bill say that shifting the project to a more streamlined agency would reduce costs.
