Three masked gunmen accosted employees arriving at a Mervyn’s department store early Monday morning, forcing them to turn over cash and checks before robbing them of personal belongings, police said.
Redondo Beach Police Sgt. Phil Keenan said the morning manager and other employees were confronted about 5 a.m. as they prepared to open the store at the South Bay Galleria.
Keenan said the robbers forced employees at gunpoint to open the store safe and turn over an undisclosed amount in checks and cash. On their way out, the men robbed other arriving employees, pistol-whipping one of them. The unidentified victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries, Keenan said.
