All in the Name of Admiration

CHICAGO — Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun says one Carol Moseley-Braun in the world is enough. But if a Chicago woman gets her way, she will soon change her name to match that of the Illinois Democrat.
Lauryn K. Valentine, 21, who works for a market research company, said Moseley-Braun is her role model.
The judge who is handling Valentine’s name-change petition told Valentine to write to Moseley-Braun to seek her consent.
Moseley-Braun urged Valentine to make a name for herself--with her own name.
Illinois law does not require Moseley-Braun’s consent, but judges have some discretion in granting name changes.
