Asia’s economic problems are proving a boon to Grand Canyon visitors, who are finding it easier to book last-minute lodgings. The reason: Faced with falling demand, Asian tour operators have released blocks of reserved rooms, Amfac Parks & Resorts reports.
Although the landmark El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge, both on the canyon’s South Rim, continue to be heavily booked, rooms are available on many dates at the 278-room Maswik Lodge (one-fourth mile from the rim; rooms from $72) and 358-room Yavapai Lodge (one-half mile from the rim; rooms from $83). From Nov. 1 to March 18, Maswik and Yavapai rates drop to $59 under the Value Package. Reservations: telephone (303) 297-2757; Internet https://www.amfac.com.
