Family Visits Suspect in Capitol Shooting

The man accused of barging into the U.S. Capitol and killing two police officers saw his family for the first time since the shootings. Russell Eugene Weston Jr., shackled to a bed in a Washington, D.C., hospital and under heavy police guard, spent two hours with his parents, sister and brother-in-law, a hospital spokeswoman said. “They were just very happy to get to finally see their son,” defense lawyer Barry Boss said. The family requested privacy during their visit, Boss said. Weston, a paranoid schizophrenic with a long-standing fear of the federal government, is recovering from four gunshot wounds he suffered in the July 24 shootout with police.
