SACRAMENTO — A juvenile crime measure has qualified for the primary election ballot in 2000, state officials said Wednesday.
The measure, sponsored by Gov. Pete Wilson, would increase the punishment for gang-related felonies. It also would require that juveniles age 14 or older be tried as adults when charged with murder or specific sex offenses.
Proponents submitted petitions bearing 665,484 signatures. The measure needed signatures of 433,269 registered voters to qualify.
