San Clemente and Orange Lutheran kick off the prep football season today. And both will do it far from home.
The Tritons, who finished 6-3-1 last year and were fourth in the South Coast League, are in Honolulu to play Punahou. The Lancers, who were 7-2-1 and tied for second in the Olympic League, are in Tallahassee, Fla., to play North Florida Christian.

Scott McGihon, formerly of UC Irvine and Newport Harbor High, has been named head coach of the UC San Diego men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. McGihon was the assistant at Iowa last season. He succeeds Doug Boyd, who has taken the head coaching job at Rice.
