Carey, a 6-foot-1 senior setter, had 54 assists, eight kills and a match-high 17 digs in Newport Harbor’s 15-11, 16-18, 15-5, 19-17 victory over Stockton Lincoln Saturday in the Division I championship match at Cypress College. Carey, who was named the most valuable player of the title match, helped lead the Sailors to an undefeated season and their third state title in school history. Carey, the Division I Southern Section co-player of the year in 1997, has committed to Hawaii.

Allyson Marquand/Cross-Country; University/Senior
Qualified for national championships with seventh-place finish at West Regional.
Ashley Stachowski/Water Polo; Capistrano Valley/Senior
Scored 16 goals in victories over Redlands and Lakewood.
