St. Lucy’s Long Shot Knocks Off Simi Valley

Lisa Zarubick’s three-point basket with 13 seconds to play gave Glendora St. Lucy’s High a 52-50 victory over Simi Valley on Saturday night in the championship game of the Simi Valley tournament.
Center Erin Epperson scored 16 points for St. Lucy’s (8-2), which had lost in the tournament final the last two seasons. Zarubick scored nine points.
Freshman Teresa Cooper scored 10 points for the Pioneers (8-2), ranked No. 5 in the region by The Times. Guard Jamie Sturdivant had nine points.
In other Simi Valley tournament games:
Newbury Park 49, Alemany 47--Oli Keohohou made a three-point basket for Newbury Park with 1:28 left in overtime to break a 46-46 tie in the third-place game.
Kate Beckler scored 17 points for No. 7-ranked Alemany.
El Camino Real 70, Canyon 69--Leslie Lara made one of two free throws with five seconds left in the fifth-place game to break a 69-69 tie.
Sophomore Christina Aguinaga scored 28 points for El Camino Real (9-3), Cara Blumfield had 20 and Karen Shun had 17.
Earlier, El Camino Real defeated La Canada, 77-58, in the first round of the Bell-Jeff tournament. Aguinaga had 25 points.
LaTricia Fleming scored 23 points and Julianne Diaz had 12 for No. 9-ranked Canyon (9-4).
Hart 37, Camarillo 36--Briana Kentfield’s layup with 17 seconds to play helped Hart (5-6) overcome a 36-35 deficit in the seventh-place game.
Kentfield had 13 points. Lauren Ferreira scored 11 points for Camarillo (5-6).
Grant 69, Saugus 55--Natalie Gabor scored 21 points, Leslie Mui had 16 and Krystal Clay had 14 for Grant in the ninth-place game. Lexi Phelps scored 23 points for Saugus (5-7).
Littlerock 48, Burbank 25--Kristel Jones had 13 points and Rashawna Mays added 11 for Littlerock (7-7) in the 11th-place game.
