Free Child Care Center Opens at Hospital

White Memorial Medical Center has opened a free child care and activity center for patients visiting the hospital.
Hospital officials decided to open the center after noticing that many patients who lack baby-sitting services were bringing as many as four children with them to their doctor appointments. Many parents were distracted during their visits, making it difficult for them to provide important health information, officials said.
Children can stay at the center for up to 90 minutes while their parents see physicians. Bilingual staff and volunteers are on hand to assist with games, music, painting and other activities. The facility is not a day-care center for the public, but rather a drop-off service for patients only, officials said.
Located across the street from the hospital at 1701 Cesar Chavez Blvd., the children’s center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
