Cal State Fullerton 51, UC Irvine 48--In an ugly game at Irvine, the Titans managed to scrape together enough offense for the victory.
Fullerton, trailing 40-39 with 4:18 left, scored seven consecutive points in a minute and then held on. Ike Harmon had five of those points, with a three-point shot and two free throws. Kenroy Jarrett’s two free throws with one second left put the game out of reach.
Fullerton shot 31% and Irvine 30%. Fullerton had 19 turnovers and Irvine 17, many coming without much defensive pressure.
The Titans (8-11, 3-6 Big West) turned the ball over on five consecutive possessions and went scoreless for three minutes late in the game, but the Anteaters (7-12, 4-5) couldn’t take advantage. After Matt Willard’s layup with 4:39 left, Irvine didn’t score again until Adam Stetson’s layup with 23 seconds left.
Stetson led all scorers with 20 points.
