Troy Gets Two Crucial Pins to Turn Back Buena Park

Key pins by seniors Jesse Carrasco at 145 pounds and Mike Webb at 152 gave Troy the edge in a 37-25 victory over Buena Park in Freeway League wrestling Thursday.

Carrasco, who dropped to 145, is ranked second in the county at 152 pounds. He recorded his fall in 2 minutes 42 seconds. Webb pinned his opponent in 1:39. Troy is 11-2, 2-0.

In the Century League:

Santa Ana Valley 41, Orange 28--Hector Mora, ranked fifth at 140 pounds, moved up to 145, and pinned his opponent in 5:09 for Santa Ana Valley (6-3, 1-1). The Falcons’ Brian Save, ranked fourth among heavyweights, won, 14-1, and teammate Jose Palomares won at 125 with a pin in 50 seconds.

In the Empire League:

No. 9 Loara 40, Katella 30--Donny Strimback’s victory at 189 pounds clinched the match for Loara. Strimback pinned Katella’s Louis Mendez in one minute. Alex Tran of Loara won at 140 with a pin of Jesse Fernandez in 3:39. The Saxons are 2-0 in league; Katella fell to 0-2.

El Dorado 37, Kennedy 24--El Dorado (15-4, 2-0) trailed by three points after the 160-pound match, but won the last four matches to come from behind.

In the Garden Grove League:

Santiago 45, Garden Grove 31--James Thomas pinned Chris Sween in 53 seconds to win the 152-pound match for Santiago. Fernando Zepeda recorded his third straight pin in league matches when he stopped Anthony Romero in 2:41. The Cavaliers are 17-5, 2-1.

In the Golden West League:

No. 2 Santa Ana 68, Ocean View 9--Vince Aldana, who was promoted from the junior varsity to replace Tony Perez at 103 pounds, pinned Steven Loi in 2:27 to start the one-sided contest. Top-ranked Perez was held out of the match in preparation for the Five Counties Wrestling Invitational, which starts today at Fountain Valley High.

In the Pacific Coast League:

University 63, Costa Mesa 18--University (1-0) recorded eight pins in the match. Trojan Daniel Jacobs (140) recorded the fastest fall in 27 seconds.

In the Sea View League:

Santa Margarita 48, Woodbridge 30--Eric Schulte pinned Woodbridge’s Mark Cohen in 38 seconds at 125 pounds in a victory for Santa Margarita (6-3, 2-0). At 215, Will Watson, also of the Eagles, pinned Fadi Taireh in 1:50.

In the South Coast League:

Mission Viejo 48, No. 10 Trabuco Hills 35--Jeremy Pritchard clinched the match for Mission Viejo with a victory at 215 pounds.
