In other nonleague girls’ water polo:
No. 2 Capistrano Valley 13, El Toro 4--Ashley and Amber Stachowski and Alexa Olsen each scored three goals for Capistrano Valley (13-3).
Dana Hills 7, Costa Mesa 6--Nerissa Reidenbaugh scored three goals for Dana Hills (13-7). Goalkeeper Stephanie Lombardo had 17 saves for Costa Mesa (5-10).
Foothill 6, No. 6 Newport Harbor 4--Foothill took a 4-3 halftime advantage and held on for the upset. Daylene Coberly led the Knights with three goals. Teammate Teresa Gorbett added two goals and five steals and Janelle Coberly had five steals and five assists for Foothill (11-6). Newport Harbor falls to 12-4.
Long Beach Wilson 12, Corona del Mar 4--Long Beach Wilson, undefeated and the No. 1-ranked team in the Southern Section, got 10 of its 12 goals from two players and recorded its 16th victory, defeating Corona del Mar (7-10).
In Academy League girls’ basketball:
Connelly 49, Fairmont 42--Ruth Lazzari scored 19 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, as Connelly (12-0, 4-0) handed Fairmont (8-10, 2-3) its third consecutive loss in league. Jamie Poon added nine points, 14 rebounds and five steals for the Koalas.
In the Freeway League:
No. 10 Troy 67, Sonora 51--Troy (19-2, 5-0) moved into sole possession of first place with the victory at home against Sonora (4-1 in league). Heidi Hardeman scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter and Sara Spencer had 16 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Warriors.
In the Garden Grove League:
Pacifica 61, Bolsa Grande 27--Jaymee Pendergast scored 19 points to lead Pacifica (11-7, 6-0). Teammate Kristin Tompkins scored 14 points for the Mariners.
Bolsa Grande is 3-14, 0-6 in league.
