Holmes Finds Rare Freshman Success on Court
- Share via
The fortunes--and playing time--of Cal State Northridge freshman guard Carl Holmes have increased dramatically since Derrick Higgins was sidelined with a foot injury after five games.
Holmes, Coach Bobby Braswell’s nephew, averages 11.5 points and is shooting 48%. He averages 26 minutes in Big Sky Conference games.
The other two Matador freshmen are struggling. Center Brian Heinle began the season with several strong efforts, but his defense is lacking and it has diminished his playing time.
Carloes Harper, who averaged 28 points while earning All-Valley honors for Canoga Park High last season, has scored only four points in 31 minutes, making two of 10 shots.
