Writers Guild Set to Present Achievement Award to Sayles

The Writers Guild Foundation will present writer-director John Sayles with its career achievement award for 1997 on Feb. 13 at the Writers Guild Theater. Hosted by Leonard Maltin of “Entertainment Tonight,” the tribute will be followed by a screening of “Men With Guns,” Sayles’ forthcoming feature.
In honor of Sayles’ achievements, four of his early films will be shown. “Baby It’s You” (1983) and “The Brother From Another Planet” (1984) will screen at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 12, and “The Lady in Red” (1979) and “City of Hope” (1991) will screen at 1 p.m. on Feb. 13, followed by the tribute event at 7:15 p.m.
The Writers Guild Theater is at 135 S. Doheny Drive, Beverly Hills. Admission to the Sayles retrospective screenings is $15 for all four films, $5 single; guild members pay $12 for all, $4 single; students with ID, $7 for all, $2 single. Tickets to the tribute are $35 per person; Writers Guild members, $25; students with ID, $20.
