A driver led officers on a 17-mile chase into Los Angeles County early Tuesday after he refused to pull over, police said.
About 3:45 a.m., two officers tried to stop a 1981 Buick Regal at Beach Boulevard and Malvern Avenue for a traffic violation, Sgt. Ken Coovert said. The driver refused to pull over, and fled west on the Artesia Freeway, he said.
The California Highway Patrol joined the 85-mph chase, and the driver headed north on the Long Beach Freeway before finally pulling over near Imperial Highway, police said.
The car had been stolen from La Habra but not yet reported, police said. The driver, identified as Ruben Martinez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of grand theft auto and evading arrest, police said.
