A 2-year-old girl who last month was found to have overcome brain cancer died after allegedly being shaken by her mother’s boyfriend, police said. Cindy Cordova died two days after being taken to Children’s Hospital in Adelphi with massive brain injuries caused by severe shaking, police said. Police have charged Francisco Lionel Garcia, 20, in Cindy’s death. Police said Cindy’s mother, Candy Joya, 17, had left the child with Garcia for 3 1/2 hours while she attended a parenting class. The couple called 911 after Cindy was found limp and unresponsive. In June, after months of chemotherapy, doctors said there were no traces of a brain tumor that nearly killed Cindy, The Washington Post reported.
