Orioles Keep It Going on Road

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Baltimore Orioles extended their winning streak to seven games Wednesday night and won for the first time on the road in 11 games with a 14-3 rout of the Texas Rangers.

Mike Bordick and Lenny Webster both went three for five and drove in two runs, and Rafael Palmeiro homered for the Orioles.

“We still feel we have a chance [at a wild card spot], everybody in this clubhouse feels that way,” Webster said. “We’re on a hot streak right now and we want to keep it up.”

Roberto Alomar, Rich Becker, Eric Davis and Brady Anderson also had two RBIs each for Baltimore, which hadn’t won away from home since June 12 at Toronto.

Tom Goodwin and Juan Gonzalez had two hits each for the Rangers, who dropped their fourth straight. Gonzalez failed to drive in a run for the seventh straight game and remained stuck at 101 RBIs.

Rookie Sidney Ponson (3-6) took advantage of Baltimore’s season-high 19 hits to win for the first time on the road this season. The 21-year-old gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings.

Pete Smith pitched three scoreless innings for his first save.
