The Sister Servants of Mary will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday for a new convent and information center in Oxnard.
Several hundred supporters are expected to gather at 2 p.m. at the site, 140 G St.
The 42,000-square-foot complex will provide a chapel, classrooms and accommodations for 40 nuns.
The information center will offer training for women interested in becoming nuns, said Sister Leticia Rodriguez.
Construction of the $5-million complex is expected to be completed within 11 months.
In the last three years, 40 sisters from convents in Los Angeles, Newbury Park and Oxnard have provided health-care services free of charge to nearly 500 patients.
In addition to in-home and visiting care, the sisters also operate a 61-bed Mary Health of the Sick Convalescent and Nursing Hospital in Newbury Park.
