City officials have approved a plan to share more than $700,000 in federal grants for community development programs including rehabilitation of La Bonita Park and housing assistance for low-income residents.
The five groups and projects that received the largest allocations are: La Bonita Park, $184,658; La Habra Neighborhood Housing Services, $100,296; Boys and Girls Club of La Habra/Brea, $76,850; Gary Center, $50,000; and Community Resources Care Center, $40,000.
The rest of the money will be split among 10 other city projects and nonprofit organizations to provide improvements in La Habra’s infrastructure and social services for the needy.
City officials noted that the rehabilitation planned for La Bonita Park has been badly needed for years. Among the improvements will be the replacement of dead trees.
