In the sixth killing in Santa Monica in three weeks, a homeless man was beaten to death on the beach during an apparent robbery, authorities reported Sunday.
Arrested on suspicion of murder was Jim Henders, 28, another transient, shortly after officers received a report of a body early Sunday. Henders was being held in Los Angeles County Jail in lieu of $1-million bail.
The victim, believed to be in his 50s, was found about 4:30 a.m. face down on the beach not far from the foot of Ocean Park Boulevard. Police said the coroner’s office is seeking the man’s identity.
