Burglar Convicted After Brief Escape

A man on trial in Dover-Foxcraft, Maine, for breaking into the home of Defense Secretary William S. Cohen’s brother escaped by throwing powder into the eyes of the sheriff and a deputy, stabbing both of them and stealing a pickup truck. Michael Chasse, 23, was captured after about four hours and later was found guilty of robbery, burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery and aggravated assault. No sentencing date was set.
