Southwest 26, Valley 15--Nathaniel Harrison returned two punts for touchdowns and the Cougars (5-3, 3-2) won a WSC Southern Division game at Valley.
Harrison scored on returns of 40 and 85 yards, giving Southwest a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Monarchs (4-4, 3-2) struggled on offense for most of the game and committed four turnovers.
Valley receiver Milton Wynn caught nine passes for 169 yards, including an 84-yard scoring pass from quarterback Travis Winn to pull the Monarchs to within 26-15 with 8:53 left. Wynn caught four touchdown passes last week against Compton.
Winn, who replaced starter Eric Holtfreter in the fourth quarter, completed seven of eight for 126 yards. However, his last pass was intercepted and Southwest was able to run out the clock.
The Monarchs didn’t score until late in the third quarter when Vinny Walker ran three yards to cut the Cougars’ lead to 14-7.
Southwest sealed the victory by scoring on its next two possessions.
