City to Name Park After Councilman and Father

ALHAMBRA — The City Council took the first steps toward naming a park after Councilman Talmage V. Burke--believed to be the longest-serving City Council member in California--and his late father, former mayor and Councilman Montivel A. Burke.
Councilman Paul Talbot proposed an ordinance that would dedicate the southeast corner of W. Alhambra Road and Bushnell Street “Burke Heritage Park.”
Montivel Burke served on the City Council from 1942 to 1946. In 1944, he was elected to the state Assembly, where he served 18 years. He died in 1966.
His son, Talmage, now 80, has been on the council since 1952.
The city plans to dedicate the park in early 1999.
