Janik Gives Ventura Kick Into Semifinals

Krista Janik scored in the 25th minute and top-seeded Ventura College advanced to the semifinals of the Southern California junior college regional women’s soccer tournament with a 1-0 victory over Santa Barbara on Tuesday at Ventura.
Janik ended a five-game scoreless stretch with an unassisted goal from 18 yards.
Nicole Straky had seven saves for Ventura (19-1-3), which plays the winner of Tuesday’s late game between El Camino and Cuesta on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ventura.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Oxnard 68, Reedley 66--The Condors lost a 10-point lead in the second half, but held on to win a nonconference game at Reedley.
Tellys Knight had 15 points and 20 rebounds for Oxnard (1-2), which trailed, 28-26, at halftime.
Reggie Howard added 12 points and nine assists, and Bernabe Simon and Chris Carter each had 10 points for the Condors.
Sequoias 96, Antelope Valley 92--Deeandre Hulett made a three-point basket to break an 89-89 tie with 1:02 left and the Giants hung on to win a nonconference game at Antelope Valley.
Dameion Henry scored 25 points and Mike Paul had 23 for the Marauders (1-2), who led by five points with 2:30 left to play.
Hulett had 31 points and 11 rebounds for Sequoias (2-1).
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Fresno Pacific def. The Master’s, 15-2, 15-2, 15-6--Beth Barrington had a .240 hitting percentage with six kills and two errors in 17 attempts for the Mustangs in an NAIA West Regional first-round loss at Fresno Pacific.
Kersten Galbraith had nine digs and four kills for Master’s (17-14).
Ge Xin had 17 kills, seven digs and four blocks for Fresno Pacific (28-1).
