Congress OKs $12-Million Defense Pact for Gilfillan

The U.S. House and Senate have agreed to spend $12 million with a Van Nuys-based defense firm to fund work on two defense programs.
The U.S. Air National Guard will spend $8 million on an air traffic control radar system from ITT Gilfillan. The other $4 million will go to Gilfillan to continue development of a new military antenna that will allow simultaneous communication between several military platforms, including satellites, aircraft and unmanned vehicles.
The $12 million is part of the $250.5-billion 1999 defense appropriations bill, which was recently approved by a House-Senate conference committee.
The full House and Senate have approved the conference agreement and President Clinton is expected to sign the measure within the next several weeks.
