Man Sentenced to Death for Killing His Neighbors

A South Gate man was sentenced to death Monday for fatally stabbing his two elderly neighbors more than two years ago.
Samuel Jiminez Zamudio, 34, was unemployed and often did odd jobs for Elmer Benson, 78, and his wife, Gladys, 74, before he robbed and killed them in February 1996.
The bodies were discovered by Zamudio’s daughter, who went next door to borrow a typewriter.
