Two men operating a water-spraying truck at a construction site suffered minor injuries when the vehicle’s brakes failed and they crashed it into a mound of dirt in order to bring it to a halt, according to authorities.
The accident occurred about 11:40 a.m. at the corner of Corbin Avenue and Rinaldi Street, said Officer Nancy O’Brien of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.
The driver said he noticed the truck’s brakes were not working, police said. He tried to downshift but could not.
He then decided to crash against the hillside, O’Brien said, but the impact flipped the truck.
The driver and a worker with him were taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center.
The worker, in the back of the truck, flew off the vehicle and suffered a broken nose and minor cuts. The driver was treated for minor cuts.
