Brea Olinda, Sophomore; Cross-Country
Set a course record at Brea Invitational for girls on the redesigned Carbon Canyon Regional Park course Saturday in 20 minutes, 3 seconds over 3.1 miles, helping Brea take second place. Thune held the school record (20:25) on the old course, too. “I like the old course better,” Thune said. “You don’t have to run on the grass so much.”
Kathy Lavold/Volleyball/Outside Hitter
* Newport Harbor, Senior. Led top-ranked Sailors to three-game sweep of Laguna Beach with 11 kills and four blocks, then recorded 15 kills and three blocks in four-game victory over Arroyo Grande.
Beth Ludin/Volleyball/Outside hitter
* Rosary, Junior. Had 13 kills and 10 aces to lead Royals to three-game upset of Ocean View, ranked No. 1 in Division III-A.
Lori Mann/Cross-Country
* Santa Margarita, Sophomore. Finished second (18:58) on 3.1-mile layout to help Eagles dominate Division II at Stanford Invitational.
