Clinton Scandal

Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Los Angeles) is about as shameless as a politician can get (“OK, He Did It. Now Let’s Move On,” Commentary, Oct 2).
Waxman’s primary focus on Capitol Hill has been to punish tobacco companies and smokers. In doing so, he has, to use his own words, “pushed aside” all other policy issues. He now weighs in to cover up Bill Clinton’s felonies. Waxman doesn’t get it. He is wrong to say, “The country needs to step in and help.” Impeachment is the job of Congress, not opinion polls.

There are 435 members in the House of Representatives. Finally, one of them, Waxman, got it right. His column should be required reading for all members in the House. Newt, are you listening?

I see that Ross Perot is worried Bill Clinton may start a war to boost his poll ratings (Oct. 5). If it hadn’t been for Perot, George Bush would have been president last term. Dull but effective domestically and internationally. Who would be president now? Who knows, but it couldn’t be much worse.

The Republicans doth protest too much, methinks. Can we say: “Iran-Contra”? Of course, that was nothing as serious as the president’s sex life. It was only the sale of missiles to our enemies and diversion of the proceeds to a covert war against the direct orders of Congress.
