Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Slashing Daughter

A South-Central woman who allegedly slashed her 8-week-old daughter’s wrists with a razor blade before trying to cut her own, pleaded not guilty Monday to attempted murder charges, authorities said.
Mikona Turner, 31, was held on $500,000 bail after appearing in the downtown Criminal Courts Building. Judge Dale Fischer scheduled an Oct. 29 hearing to determine if there is enough evidence against the mother to call for a trial, said Victoria Pipkin, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
Turner was arrested last Wednesday at 9:45 p.m. by LAPD officers who responded to a call at a fast-food restaurant in the 1400 block east of Vernon Avenue, said Det. Ysabel Villegas of the Child Abuse Unit.
Upon arrival, officers restrained Turner after being told by witnesses that she had been trying to slash her own wrists.
