Prop. 9
It is utterly absurd to charge that California Taxpayers’ Assn. opposition to Proposition 9 was “bought” by its three electric utility members (Harvey Rosenfield’s Oct. 12 commentary). Unable to defend his poorly written initiative on its merits, he has been attacking his opponents. Throwing mud at the wall is a sure sign of desperation.
Cal-Tax’s 90-member board of directors represents a cross-section of California business and industry, from agriculture and retailers to high-tech manufacturers and financial institutions. They were unanimous in their decision to oppose Rosenfield’s initiative because they recognize it is an extremely dangerous threat to the California economy.
This proposition would increase electric energy rates, postpone indefinitely California’s transition to a competitive electric energy market and expose taxpayers to a $6-billion liability for bonds that have already been sold.
