The little train that couldn’t? The Florida Fun-Train, offering strolling musicians, video games and theme eateries on a 200-mile route between Fort Lauderdale and the Orlando areas, has suspended service “indefinitely” less than a year after starting up. Its parent company, Hollywood, Fla.-based First American Railways Inc., has filed for Chapter 7, which leads to liquidation of its assets, according to its attorney, Chad Pugatch of Fort Lauderdale.
The train, with one-way fares set at $69.95 per adult and $49.95 for children--higher than taking Amtrak or flying--was unable to generate enough riders soon enough to satisfy investors, according to co-founder and former CEO Allen Harper. Refunds and information: (888) 920-0606.
