A 2-year-old boy who quietly slipped away from his grandmother as she chatted with a neighbor tumbled into a swimming pool and drowned Saturday evening in Brea, police said.
Collin Drake LePora’s limp body was found at the bottom of his grandmother’s backyard pool soon after she noticed he had disappeared and began searching for him, said Brea police Sgt. Martin H. Needham.
The grandmother, Lorrainne DuBois, 67, and her neighbor pulled the toddler out and tried to resuscitate him, Needham said. Paramedics rushed the boy to Placentia Linda Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:33 p.m., he said.
The boy was visiting his grandmother on the 3300 block of East Date Street while on vacation with his mother and three brothers and sisters, who all lived in Sterling Heights, Mich.
The toddler was with his grandmother, who had walked to a neighbor’s house to borrow some ice, when he wandered off, Needham said.
