Please Use Care Around Trucks

* Re “Truckers Driven by a Fast-Paced Era,” Aug. 16:
My father is a truck driver and I have traveled with him on many trips in and out of Los Angeles.
It amazes me how unsafe drivers can be while driving near semitrailer trucks. Often, drivers carelessly change lanes directly in front of semis, especially in heavy traffic.
Cutting off trucks like this may cause a truck to jackknife, or, worse, cause an accident.
An accident cannot only injure both drivers, it can cost the truck driver his job. Drivers must be aware of staying out of a trucker’s blind spots, while also allowing an adequate distance to merge in front of these trucks.
If truckers must be extra cautious of automobiles, then the same should apply for automobile drivers. Every day I pray that my dad does not encounter one of these “unconscious” drivers.
